It's so hard to find a good Chinese restaurant in this area, but one of my neighbors recommended this place and I'm so glad they did.
Apparently this is Taiwanese food, actually? A lot of politics there I don't want to touch, but the food is great, in my opinion.
My wife doesn't like their chow mein (she prefers the greesy fried stuff from Panda Express), but there's a Panda between my house and A-1 so I can get myself some real Chinese food and stop and also stop and get the "Chinese food" that my wife likes (**) -

We had lunch for the first time at A-1 Chinese BBQ last weekend.
I don't disagree with other reviewers who enjoyed the food and reasonable lunch prices. We ordered a chicken pan fried noodle dish and a seafood tofu hot pot recommended by the server. The noodles were very good. I enjoyed the tofu in the hot pot, but my husband said that the fish was too fishy. I didn't have any, so can't comment on that.
I found the restaurant too claustrophobic to dine at on a regular basis. When we entered, it was small and tables were pretty close to each other. There was a small window near our table, but for the most part it was a square room without much light coming in. The fly that kept buzzing around our table was desperately trying to find a way out.
Our female server was nice and checked on us to see how we liked the food. The male server brought our bill which totaled just under $20 and said that I'd have to pay cash since it was under $20. I said that when I added a tip it would be more than that, but he directed me to their sign near the register about the $20 minimum. Luckily, I had some cash with me.
I didn't expect a gourmet dining experience, but perhaps take out would be a better option. -

What a surprising find in this quaint mom and pop restaurant! The dishes were absolutely delicious! Have you ever had food that evokes memory from your childhood? If you have, then you know what I am talking about. The dishes here reminded me of the dishes I had when I was growing up in Taiwan. There were 10 people in our party and we ordered lots of dishes and all of them were fantastic! We started with some pickled cucumbers that had the right note of spicy, sweet, and sour. We then had the sour cabbage pork soup. Another absolutely delicious dish as we munched on pork, sour cabbage (similar to sauerkraut), and rice vermicelli noodles. Then more dishes came out: Taiwanese chicken roll, shrimp roll, seafood tofu pot, braised ribs with taro, stir fried squid, & Taiwanese stir fried vermicelli noodles. Every single dish was absolutely delicious! I wish I can come back more often, but, alas, I'm just visiting with the family. Perhaps I will make a trip out to California more often and come visit this restaurant once more.

This place is amazing! I have been driving by this place for years and missed out for so long. Do not judge a book by its cover. The staff is very friendly. As soon as we sat, we were given hot tea and our menus. Definitely coming back to try more dishes because every table had so many good looking plates. It's family style and large portions. Decided to go with the sautéed string beans, bbq pork and pork chow mein. It's so good I'd want to re order when coming back but I'm fearful of missing out on other items. Definitely eat here!

It's a newer, downsized location, but my family has been going there for decades. Nothing has changed. Do NOT miss the complementary hot and sour soup, it's probably the best I've had-- ever. The owner went to China/Taiwan to perfect this recipe and it definitely shows. Definitely come for the lunch specials (~$8 a dish), which i would recommend the pepper fried pork chops, kung pao chicken, sauteed string beans. They have specialty items but some require advanced notice. The place is small and fills up, so take out is probably your best bet during busy times.
